Project Life Week 15: Goals, Flowers, and Passports.

Today's Project Life covers the week  of April 7-April 13.

IMG_5068

This was the week after Spring Break- so we came back GUNG HO ready to tackle projects and get the remainder of the school year under control and completed---- sooooo much happening in the last 7 weeks before summer.

IMG_5052

Finally seeing blooms in are yard.  A sight we were all ready to see after the very cold and snowy winter we had.   We also began a huge backyard project at the beginning of this week--- we (as in a professional company- not us!) are completely redesigning our back yard with landscaping and new deck.

IMG_5058

There is a daffodil hill across the street at my uncle's house-- the house that my dad and his brothers grew up in.   These daffodils were planted in the 1920's i believe.  Hard to imagine.  They used to spell out ALLISON which is the last name of my grandmother's uncle.   My kids LOVE these daffodils and call it daffodil hill.

IMG_5062

We went this week to get my kids mug shot passport photos.  We are going on a fun adventure this summer where they will need their first passports ever.   Can we discuss these photos for a moment?   1. Jonah looks like bubba gump.  2.  Jordan cried her eyes out when she saw her photo-- she "HATES" it.   Oh.dear.Lord.   The no showing your teeth rule is so ridiculous!  Passport retakes?  We'll see.

What a week

Monday, April 28, 2014

Seriously, last week was just one of those weeks.

where it seemed like the craziest things were happening.

First, I get a call from kids school on Monday (while I was at the school nonetheless) from the nurse.  Never a good feeling.  She said that Jonah was fine but got tangled in his chair and has a black eye.   WHAT!?   he seriously fell out of his chair during class and managed to get a black eye.

I went down to see him-- poor buddy.

Then on Thursday I was cooking with oil in a cast iron skillet... do you see where this is going?

Yes the oil splashed all over me when I put our steaks in the skillet and I was burned on my left hand about the size of a quarter, and my right arm (i'll spare you photos).   It could have been worse but it still didn't (and doesn't) feel pleasant.

thankfully todd was my "murse" and took great care of me bandaging me up daily.  even though i was calling him gaylord focker. :)

oh my.   here's hoping for a better week....

happy monday!

Project Life Week 14: Spring Break

Monday, April 21, 2014

Today's Project Life covers the week of March 31-April 6: our spring break week!

IMG_4984

We were deep in the heart of Texas visiting dear friends in Austin.   What a busy week we had!

IMG_4977

I primarily used items from Elle's Studio April Kit to document this week.   The "Details from this week" is perfect for Project Life and Spring Break weeks.  I also love the wood veneer pieces in the Happy Day Wood Veneer!

IMG_4988

I also used the new Noteworthy Stamp which is AWESOME.   I love the small font sentiments and the "HELLO" is super cool.

IMG_4983

As you can see we pretty much ate our way through Texas- and it rocked.   It was an awesome Spring Break!  I plan to have a Spring Break mini album but i am SO glad I have this already documented!

Our Great Texas Adventure Day 3: Meeting Uncle Si

Thursday, April 10, 2014

So yesterday I explained about how we are slightly obsessed with Duck Dynasty... and how on Day 2 of our Great Texas Adventure we visited my friend Amie in West Monroe, LA and went to the Duck Commander store.

Well, Day 3 we woke up in West Monroe.  Remember how I said we are slightly obsessed?  Well, it was Sunday, so we decided to go to church *conveniently* at the Robertson's church.....   just in case they might be there.

Well, they were:

D Y I N G.

Ok, backstory.   My friend Amie went with us and knew where she thought they went to church (she was 98% sure, but now i would say it's 100% sure).   We explained to the kids that we are going to church and if we see someone from Duck Dynasty we do not yell out or get overly excited (wait i think this goes for me too), because we are in church and we are there to worship the Lord.

So we get to our seats near the back and we immediately see Jase near the front.   This is where I begin to geek out.  Poor Amie must have been so embarrassed with my lack of composure.

The service begins and after a few songs we begin to pray.  That is when I feel a tap on my shoulder from Todd.  I look over to Todd and he points to the aisle right by us where Si and Phil are standing, heads bowed.  After the prayer they took their seats 7 rows in front of us.

This is when I officially began geeking out.  And i'm embarrassed to say, I began taking photos of the back of Phil Robertson's head during worship.  (shameful, i know).  He was wearing his bandana and sunglasses all of church!!!

After singing several worship songs, the pastor invited the congregation to say hello to those around you.  This is a common thing in churches, and at our church, this is basically done in about a minute or two TOPS before moving on to the next part of the service.

Well, not here.  The greeting part lasted FIFTEEN minutes!   No joke!  About eight minutes into the greeting time I decided we did not drive all this way, and get this close, to NOT say hello.  I told jonah to follow me and I walked over to Uncle Si who was sitting on the end of a pew.  I shook his hand and told him we were from Indianapolis and that my son Jonah was 8 and dying to meet him (lie, it was really me wanting to meet him).   He was SUPER nice and said to Jonah, "HEY!  Watch out for whales!"  Then I took their photo.   SO MUCH FUN!

IMG_1184

Is that a look of pure joy or what???  (and no i did not see his tea glass:)

We sat back down and I was able to actually enjoy the rest of the service and not obsessively stare at Duck Dynasty beards.    The service was incredible--- a woman painted the throne room of Christ as we sang hymns while she painted.  It was very powerful and moving.

IMG_1188

After church Amie took us down to the bayou to walk around and explore.

IMG_4673

We kept our eyes peeled for gators, but didn't see any (thankfully) but we did see a snake!  And birds were responding to Jordan's bird calls!

IMG_4691

Thank you Amie for spending time with us!!!  We love you!

IMG_4678

IMG_4676

After exploring it was time to hop in the car and head to Austin.   Texas or bust!!!

IMG_1190

One of the coolest state line signs I have seen-- we had to stop and get a photo (it wasn't a busy road).
We made it into Austin late that night--- WHEW what a crazy day it had been!!!

That wraps up Day 3.  And that's a fact, Jack!

Our Great Texas Adventure: Day 2

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Day two of our Texas Adventure found us waking up in Springfield Missouri and heading to LOUISIANA for the night.   (Day 1 details here)

IMG_4650

On our way we drove through Branson.   WOW- we need to go back there and play someday!  I had never been through Branson and it looks like a lot of fun.  A southern family friendly Vegas!

IMG_4648

As we drove through we stopped at the Sight and Sound theatre where they were showing the musical JONAH!   OF COURSE we had to stop and get our Jonah's photo in front of the sign.  What a fun find!  We were so sad we could not stay to see the show (but we did get the DVD and tons of other Jonah things in the gift shop).

A nice employee took us into the theatre to show us around.  DEFINITELY check out this show if you are in Branson!  There's live animals that are in the show and come down the aisle--- an immaculate beautiful theatre too!

IMG_4652

Side note: I think Jordan's new puppy is in almost every picture.  It was a surprise in her travel bag and she named her Elsa :)

After checking out Branson we got back in the car to book it to LOUISIANA to visit our sweet friend Amie in West Monroe.   Check out where we met up.....

IMG_1160

True story: typing in "Duck Commander" in your iPhone map will take you straight to the Duck Commander (Duck Dynasty) store.

SO HAPPY to see Amie.  Love this girl!  We met her on a cruise 4 years ago (along with tons of other wonderful friends) and many of us still keep up and are close.

IMG_1165

Confession:  here is where you are going to learn about our love/obsession for Duck Dynasty.  To the point it's almost stalker-ish.   Just wait, you'll see....

It's all in good fun though--- we just think it's a hilarious show, and there's times it reminds me of my own family (minus the squirrel eating and hunting part).   The fact they all work together, live close to one another, always together, reminds me so much of my own family.   And besides, who doesn't love Uncle Si?

IMG_1164

Christmas Card photo in front of the Duck Commander store?  Maybe???

IMG_4664

Hey, sorry kids, i know you are looking directly into the sun, but stand here ad smile for the camera while we get a family picture in front of the Duck Dynasty semi.  (sheesh, the things we do to our poor kids).

IMG_1163

So we went into the Duck Dynasty store which is inside the Duck Commander building.  TONS of tshirts, toys, camo furniture... you name it.   Lots of fun displays to look at too... like this giant Phil.  Why not, right?

IMG_1168

After Duck Commander store we had dinner, where else, at Willie's Duck Diner.  Because we are groupies like that.

IMG_1176

Since I eat gluten free I didn't get to enjoy the true southern food there--- which some of it: 1) i can't pronounce or even know what it is, and/or 2) I know what it is and would NOT eat it (frog legs? fried gator? crawfish?) no thanks, i'll just have a salad.

IMG_1171

Events occurring after dinner included certain people driving down certain private drives and hanging out of the car taking photos of certain famous people's homes.   But I don't know who would do that, because that's just creepy.

And that's a wrap on Day 2!

Project Life Week 13: And that's a fact Jack.

Today's Project Life covers the week of March 24-30.  And yes, that's Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty :)

IMG_4930

This week was an interesting week.  We had a normal(ish) week from Monday until Thursday, but Friday we left for our Spring Break trip to Texas.  I decided to focus mostly on Friday-Sunday on this spread.

IMG_4931

On our drive to Texas we met up with several friends, and even met Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty (that story will be coming soon to my blog:).

IMG_4913

I was able to create this spread pretty quickly this weekend once we returned from Texas largely because I was using the Elle's Studio March Kit and my Selphy printer.  At first I was overwhelmed, only because I had SO many photos and SO many stories.  Knowing I will be creating a specific album from our Texas trip, I was able to just create and pick highlights from the trip.

IMG_4914

The "Road Trip" found in the March kit was perfect for this spread--- i had to document that we drove 2800 miles total last week!

IMG_4921

On the second page I included a part of a shopping bag from the Duck Commander store, and a "2" from a calendar last year to document that Jonah was in SECOND place for the NCAA pool he entered at Todd's office.  That kid is obsessed with his bracket and basketball!
