doorposts: scrapbooking with intention.

Thursday, September 26, 2013

I am currently putting together a talk about scrapbooking and Project Life for a Mom's group in October.

IMG_9926

While I am trying to get over the fact that I feel way more comfortable typing out my thoughts than speaking them (an opportunity to be brave), I feel overwhelmed by a verse that God impressed on my heart:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

These commands I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates."

As funny as it sounds, I consider our memories to be a doorpost of our home.

What I record in our albums say so much about me, my husband, and our children.  It documents what we like, what we do, who we spend our time with... really, it shows who we are.

IMG_6344

I would like to think that if you didn't know me at all, you could learn something about my life by flipping through the pages of these albums.

I would hope you might notice the fact that I love Jesus.  Or maybe you would remember that we have chickens, or that we are obsessed with Star Wars, or that we enjoy travel.

Whatever ti is I choose to document, I am building a foundation-- a doorpost-- to walk into our world and listen to our story.

IMG_9930

What I write on these doorposts could possibly, maybe even impact my future generations.

Could it be that journaling about my struggle with anxiety could encourage a great great grandchild?

IMG_9927

Could it be that sharing the ups and downs of motherhood could offer a sigh of relief to my daughter in twenty years?

Or possibly, could proclaiming Who I put my trust in, page after page, could change the life of someone I love.

IMG_9923

I am reminded to write and record with intention because it matters.

These pages are doorposts-- and I want to cover them with Life and Hope.

Project Life Week 35: New Routines

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

This week's Project Life covers the week of August 26- September 1.

IMG_9910

This was the start of many new things in our home this week--- the start of a full week of school, new routines, the start of a long holiday weekend, and the start of a new life for our dear friends.   Lots of good stuff.
IMG_9905

I used a mixture of Seafoam cards along with items from Elle's Studio Penelope collection (which will be available next Monday!)

IMG_9913

It was also fun to punch a photo in a circle and back it on white card stock to provide a new shape to the layout.  The Penelope heart stamps were the perfect touch to that photo (which melts my heart).

Looks like someone was very observant in the barn during her horseback riding lesson last night.

Project Life Week 34: First Day of School.

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

This week's Project Life covers the week of August 19-25.

IMG_9748

This week was the first day of school--- so of course I have many photos to share.  I decided to include an insert where each side highlights one of the kid's first days.

IMG_9739

The left side is mostly about the days leading up to the first day (which was on a thursday).  Lots of friends over and squeezing in swimming time.  I love the circle punch photo on white card stock for many reasons- 1. it's a hilarious photo and 2. it creates a circle in the design.

IMG_9742

The back to school card comes from the Project Life Holiday Mini Kit by Becky Higgins.  Various Elle's Studio monthly kits and Penelope were used to create this spread.

IMG_9750

The backside of this insert highlights Jonah's first day of first grade.  Some of these photos are repeated from their childhood albums, but I wanted it documented here as well!

IMG_9755

The right side of the spread highlights our annual Conner Family Picnic (i blogged about it last year).  So much fun!!

Project Life Week 33: Last Week of Summer

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

This week's Project Life covers the week of August 12- August 18

IMG_9693

This week covers the last full week of summer at our house.  The last week is always jammed back with activities... this week we went to the pool with cousins, went to the zoo, went bowling, has horseback riding lessons, art lessons, found out teacher assignments... and dressed up like the Skywalker family.  no biggie.

IMG_9668

For my layout I used the Elle's Studio September Kit--- which is available TODAY.  (did you know that on launch day-- which is today-- the exclusive kit is only $9.99 for one day?   Regular price is $11.99).

Make sure to grab your kit, they are fabulous for PL.  And once they are sold out, we will not be restocking!

IMG_9677

There were so many activities this week I added an insert.  I wanted to have one large image for the front side of the insert.   I considered many different photos but didn't really have the right one for this size/spot.  I then remembered I had a mailer from the zoo on my desk.  Since we were at the zoo that week I took the large photo of the lion, cut it down the center, and trimmed it to fit the pockets.  I love the impact that it brings to the spread!

IMG_9682

The backside of the insert tells the story of our Star Wars costume party adventure.

I love the vellum 4x6 card and "good bye summer" in the September kit.  I decided to journal end of summer thoughts on the kraft tag found in the kit, and layer the vellum on the outside of the pocket.  I adhered it with staples and added the tag on front.

IMG_9695

Sigh.  End of summer is so bittersweet.  Ready for routine, but miss the special time together as a family.  It was such an awesome summer, glad to have it documented in Project Life.

IMG_9029

the past two weeks since school started have felt like a blur,

yet at the same time, it's also felt like the longest two weeks of my life.

getting used to having both kiddos in school is quite the transition.

IMG_8899

i thought it would be no big deal since Jordan was going to preschool three days a week last year,

but i was wrong.

those breaks of having her home during the week filled my heart.

but this is a new season, and even though it's different, it is still exciting.

we are all transitioning- all of us.

and we are getting used to everything.

I have scrambled around finishing (and starting) home decor projects with our interior designer, various appointments, visiting a friend who had a new baby.  and then there are days when i have 2 hours until pickup and i sometimes wondering how to occupy myself... it's kind of weird.

IMG_8918

we are squeezing in last bits of summer-- swimming, being outside, date nights, concerts, horse back riding, having friends over.

IMG_8981

this is a good time.

the changing seasons are in the air and, i can feel it.
