Project Life Week 7: Make it Quick

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

This week's Project Life covers the week of February 11- February 17: Valentine's Week!

When I create my PL spreads, I rarely complete the layout in one sitting.  I like to work on it for a little bit, take a break and come back.   (Or maybe it's because there are so many other things going on that I don't have the opportunity to sit down for a big chunk of time!).

IMG_4954

However, this spread was created in one sitting within an hour and half!   Somethings it's fun to challenge yourself to get it down quickly.  Sure, there are more things I could have added (like the kids Valentine's, etc), but I only had a little time to focus on crafting this week.

Some notable items I added this week:  The card that came from my Valentine's flowers from Todd, Jordan has a well check AND a sick visit to the Doctor this week (her last Dr visit was her 4 year old well check!), Valentine's day balloons, Jonah eats his toast into the state of Illinois, a preschool concert, and starting to plan for our Disney trip.

Also, the heart scripture card came from Naptime Diaries (you can still get a printable version)

Five

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

It's hard to believe this happened five years ago today.

jordanbirth 012

Today we are celebrating Jordan's fifth birthday--- it will be full with cupcakes, her new Barbie RV camper, and lots of hugs and kisses.

She is such a joy in our lives.

Sick day routines.

Thankfully she is all better now, but in this photo she was working on a 103 temperature.

On Valentine's Day, nonetheless.

Bless her sweet heart.

IMG_5819

I snapped this photo of her eating lunch and watching TV during her sick day and I started thinking about our "routine" when the kids are sick.   (yes i let her eat macaroni and chips -- how could i say no when she asked?).

I think our routine stems from how I grew up-- whenever we were sick my mom always put out "the sick blankie" (a pink floral soft blanket/sheet reserved only for sick days) over the couch.

We also got a tray for lunch / popsicles / and water.  In fact this might be the same tray my mom used.

It's funny how those little things always brought comfort to me on a sick day and now I do the same thing without thinking twice.

How were you comforted or how do you comfort others on sick days?

Project Life Week 6 : Experiments with Inserts

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

This week's Project Life covers Week 6, the week of February 4-10

IMG_4911

It was a SUPER full week.  A field trip, Valentine prep, a doctor's check up, a weekend conference, a much needed girls night out, a dance recital, and the 100th day of school.  whew.

IMG_4878

Last week I purchased these scripture cards from Naptime Diaries specifically for my Project Life album.  I absolutely love them and have been wanting to include Bible verses within my pages.

IMG_4886

I included an insert this week.  I probably could have incorporated the items in the insert within the spread, but the insert contains two big stories I wanted to focus on this week.   There are four 4x6 pockets in this insert by We R Memory Keepers.  I cut the bottom right pocket so that I could included an Elle's Studio tabbed 4x6 card, then I stitched it back up.

IMG_4889

I just love the front side of this insert.  It features memorabilia from Jonah's seven year old check up.  I snapped a photo of Jonah with his pediatrician-- who was also my pediatrician when I a child.  I enjoyed taking time to document this yearly event in our album, and journaling a bit about the kid's doctor whom we appreciate so much.   (and yes I took him to get McDonald's after his well-check!  McD's is a rare thing in our house!)

IMG_4905

The back of the insert features Todd's weekend at Greek InterVarsity conference.

IMG_4904

Greek InterVarsity was a huge part of both Todd and my college experience.  Greek IV is basically a youth group (or Campus Crusade like event) on college campuses for fraternity and sorority students.  There is also a huge fun conference that many campuses attend in Indy every winter.   Greek IV played a huge role in how Todd came to know Jesus Christ in college.   Todd and I didn't meet each other until after college, however the reason we stopped to talk for the first time was because we both recognized each other from Greek IV at Purdue.  Basically it plays a big role in both of our lives for many reasons. :)

ANYWAY, Todd has faithfully served as a volunteer every conference since he's graduated- thirteen years ago (SHEESH).   I left a blank card for him to journal the experience when he has the chance.  I wanted the journaling to be in his handwriting instead of mine :)

Finally, the right side of the spread.  I enjoyed using the prompt card from Becky Higgins Seafoam edition.

all things Disney

i am in the process of planning a SUPER fun upcoming trip to Disney World....

garydisney 044

the last time we went was in 2008 when Jonah was three and Jordan was 6 months.  we went with my family and it was so much fun.  we loved being together and having a lot of help with the kids :)

garydisney 047

garydisney 062

we had so much fun but obviously jonah and jordan have few memories because they were so small.

So planning this trip is a whole new experience.  last time we were very relaxed and flexible with scheduling and planning since the kids were so little.  But this trip???  It's GO TIME. :)

clevelanddisney 118

So, I need your help.   What are your top Disney Tips / Must See Activities????    I've been searching the internet and Pinterest, but would love to know from YOU.

Here are a few things I have done already:
  • we are driving and have already booked our lodging off site (cheaper and bigger rooms)
  • will probably be in the park 4 or 5 days.  (should we do Park Hopper?)
  • Currently using Tour Guide Mike (and for some reason i keep calling it Magic Mike, which raises a few eyebrows from my husband).   It's been really helpful so far.

OK.  ready set go... let me know what you got!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Today I have a LOVE layout up over at the JBS blog using the gorgeous Modern Mercantile collection

IMG_4821

I actually love that this layout features colors other than reds and pinks (the typical valentines colors!)   Lisa Dickinson did a fabulous job designing this line.

Jump over to the Jenni Bowlin blog for more info on how I created this layout.  :)

I hope you have a great Valentine's Day!

Project Life Week 5: Experiments in Photography.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

This week's Project Life covers the week of January 28- February 3.

IMG_4741

February.  I still can't believe we are already in February-- and half way in for that matter.  Time goes by too fast.

IMG_4745

This week's spread is fairly simple.  I highlighted many of the pink colors found in Elle's Studio's You & Me collection.

IMG_4746

Highlights from this week include: A field trip with Jordan's class, making cookie dough, an after school cupcake treat, Jordan's parent/teacher conference, Saturday night basketball game, oil change (is that a highlight?), communion at church, and the Super Bowl.

IMG_4735

Sometimes when I have an overabundance of photos for a particular week, i choose my photos based on themes that can be identified.   This week I definitely noticed many overhead photos (birds eye view) and some food photos.   A pleasant surprise was noticing I had similar photos of both Jonah and Jordan admiring watching the older kids dance/play basketball this week.  I had fun putting these photos side by side (on opposite pages) and having the title "dreaming" connecting both photos.
