I went to Greece in September of 2010 and came home with hundreds of photos and memories. It was completely overwhelming to begin to think about putting an album together due to the sheer volume of photos. I made a few layouts here and there but "shelved" the project until I had come up with a plan.
While in Greece we took Ali's Scrapbook on the Road class. I loved this class and it came in handy as I completed my New Zealand travel album last year. Since I did not complete a book prior to Greece I knew I wanted to do something a little different for this trip.
It's been nine months since I began Project Life. For me, the system just works. I had a lightbulb moment a few weeks ago and thought this would be a PERFECT way to document this trip.
There were SO many stories, photos, and memories, what better way to put it all together than with the Project Life method of documenting?
Here are a few photos and pages of my album so far. I have had SO much fun doing this. It feels so great to finally get started on this project that has been waiting for my attention for the last year and a half :)
I ordered large 12x12 photos from Mpix and trimmed them to fit into the full page pockets. I have seen this done so many times before and was excited to finally try it. I LOVE it. I think it works especially well with travel photos!
I will be sure to post photos of the completed album. Thanks for swinging by today- happy friday!

Happy Tuesday! Today I am sharing Week 15 (April 9-15) of my Project Life album.
I had to laugh after putting together this week's page because it seemed almost every photo/journaling had to do with FOOD. Kinda funny. It's important, you know? ;) But seriously, looking back in a few (or many) years it will be fun to see what we loved to eat!
I took the instax photo of Jonah (below, top right) at breakfast one morning last week. Instead of journaling: "Jonah eating breakfast before school" (which really would have been fine), I decided to take it a step further and write about what some of his favorite breakfast foods are right now. He has some "regulars" (plum juice and cinnamon toast), and other favorites like yogurt and granola that requests on different days.
Todd also had a special Dad's Lunch at school and included his own journaling. I added a photo of a lunch I made (recipe coming soon) and a few quotes from the week. On the opposite page I included an insert with part of our church bulletin and a coloring page Jordan did in Sunday School. (i couldn't find jonah's! trying not to play "fair game" here:)
This was a big week for us because on Friday (4/13), we gained possession of our new house. On the back side of the insert I included a note that was sent to us from the previous homeowner. It was a really thoughtful note that I wanted to be sure to include.
On the right hand page, yes MORE FOOD :) A photo of our first take out meal in the house, my first time making biscuits and gravy, and Jonah and todd making fried rice together. I also included some journaling on Jordan and her favorite outfit right now:)
Yes, there is an empty space-- I am waiting on a printed instagram from PostalPix to arrive and slide into that spot. One of my out of town friends came through and we all went to dinner that night- it's my only photo from the night! I love using PostalPix for instagram printing, but I do feel like the turn-around time for delivery is a little longer than what I prefer.

A little over a week ago we gained possession of the new (older) home.
It was a super exciting day. That night we went over to the house and had our first meal (take out) and shared a bottle of wine with friends and family who came by to see the house.
The previous homeowner's first name is Sterling, and she lived in this house for over 25 years. She left us a beautiful flower arrangement and very kind note about how she is "happy that we see the house for what it is, and that we are building upon it and putting our own signature on it". We thought it was only appropriate when I found "Sterling Vintners Collection" wine. The perfect wine to toast to our new house.
Coincidentally, the very same time we were enjoying this first meal in our new house, we were also having our first showing at our current home.
I have to be honest, I am having a bit of a hard time with some of the responses from our showings. I know it's the nature of the real estate business, but it's hard not to take SOME offense when someone concludes that a bathroom needs to be gutted, or updates are needed here, and they don't like this... after only being in my home for a few minutes.
It's funny how we can become so attached to our possessions, isn't it? I am really working on not letting it get to me or to become discouraged with the processes. It's been an interesting week adjusting to showings and feeling like we might need to clean up and leave our house at a moments notice. We are definitely in a season of transition over here. It's different, but it's still good.
We have big plans for this new house and I am really excited to begin sharing photos of these renovations on my blog. However, I do want to be sensitive to the fact this was someone else's home before it was ours, and be respectful in that matter (just as i would hope someone would do the same for us:).
So pardon our dust over the next six weeks or so, and I hope you enjoy seeing a bit of home renovation photos from time to time.

I thought I would share with you photos of my scrap space before we move and it's no longer my own!
This has been THE BEST scrap room for me (i would love to use the word "scrap studio" however, I have an unofficial rule that it's not a studio if it has carpet-- therefore it's a scrap space:)
This used to be one large room in our walk-out basement. When I was pregnant with Jonah, my talented husband transformed the area to be an extra bedroom and this craft space for me. It was during my pregnancy with Jordan that he had the cabinets built in. I will really miss those cabinets when we move.
Do you like the mural on the back wall? We call it the "naked pilot" :) Kinda random, right? Well it was painted by a highschooler about 12 years ago. One of Todd's hobbies was flying in college so he had this mural painted (but i don't he didn't ask for the pilot to looks naked....) Ahem. Anyway. I use two stacked ikea shelves for storage to the right of my desk area. It is REALLY cleaned out right now due to showings, but this was great for space!
Here is a close up of my desk. It most definitely never looks this clean. Unless we are having a showing, and that makes crafting really difficult because I prefer the "paper explosion" method of scrapbooking. See that chevron tub on the left? I got that tub at Target recently and that's my Project Life station.
I keep all my Elle's Studio tags in here and also a few of my other Project Life favorites (as well as adhesive, scissors, sticker labels, etc). It's handy to have them all together in the tub, because it can move with me if i would like to work on Project Life somewhere else in the house.
Even though I love having these cabinets, I have found that stashing away items makes me forget what I have. So i keep some products out in view, and tried different things to organize inside the drawers and cabinets.
Obviously, paper is stored in the larger cabinets. I have found that organizing by manufacturer works best for me due to assignments, etc. (and clearly my paper needs organizing right now!)
The smaller drawers are tricky. I had a REALLY hard time figuring out how to keep those drawers organized and to be able to see what products I have... muffin tins were the key!! I love how it looks and it keeps smaller/like items together!
This drawer is still a little crazy, but I used a muffin tin here too for more items.
Behind my desk is this little corner with an ikea bookcase and a white dresser. I store albums in the bookcase and the white dresser was used for other craft items. To the left you can see the door into Jonah's room. :)
I hope whoever purchases this house is a scrapper because MAN i'm going to miss this room! I am equally excited for my next scrap room (which will be a STUDIO) and having a lot of fun planning for the next space... but this one is super special to me and will be missed!
